Department of Engineering and Mathematics

The Department of Engineering and Mathematics is characterized by extensive activities in the field of applied research in close cooperation with local industry, but also in the field of basic research in cooperation with other universities and research institutions. The high application focus of the research supports the attractiveness and practical relevance of the teaching. Due to the intensive contact between the professors and the economy, the department sees itself as a competent problem solver for industrial, commercial and medium-sized companies with access to important practice-relevant research and development results.

Research and development is carried out in the Engineering and Mathematics Department with a focus on sustainability and efficiency and is based on extensive investigations and validations using modeling and simulation.

Prof. Patel's working group deals with the fermentation and formulation of biologicals and chemicals, in particular for agricultural applications.

The group's projects deal with the development of slow-release fertilizers based on algae extracts, immobilization and co-cultivation of microalgae, encapsulation of plant extracts, antimicrobial active ingredients from Indian medicinal plants or the establishment of a moringa farm to combat malnutrition in Sierra Leone.
In the field of formulation science, 17 patents have already been registered by AG Patel.
